In today’s episode Karen and I chat about:

  • The connection between joy and activism, why Karen didn’t see herself as an activist, and how Karen defines activism.

  • How we can distinguish joy from happiness, why joy is driven by purpose and meaning, and the connection between activism and spirituality.

  • How we can work for change and advocate for the causes we care about without losing our joy, how we can prevent burnout, and the difference between what sparks our activism and the fuel that keeps us going.

  • Plus, Karen shares the self-inquiry strategies that will help us dive deeper into this work, how she’s making light in the world, her word for 2022 and go-to affirmation, and so much more!

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Karen, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

Joy I think, and from the research that I did, comes from something deeper and it’s usually connected with meaning and purpose. If you’re doing something that taps into you, in a way that gives meaning to your life or to your work, suddenly it starts to feel like joy. If that’s what you’re doing, activism very naturally plays with joy. It’s not to say that you’re going to be happy all the time, but certainly as you make progress and start including more meaning and purpose in your life, joy starts to emerge.
— Karen Walrond
If you are moved to purposeful action because something in your values tell you that you have to do something, and you do it for the benefit of a community, of other people, you get to call yourself an activist.
