Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is Christina Wilcox, author, illustrator, mental health advocate, Enneagram expert and all-’round creative living by the mantra “assume less, love more”.

Today we’re talking all about using the Enneagram to guide your self-care while in the pandemic, and I’m so excited to share it with you!

In her new book Take Care of Your Type, Christina uses her knowledge of the Enneagram to illuminate how each of the nine Enneagram types can practice better self-care. Answering questions ranging from “What is the best morning routine for my type?” to “What boundaries are important to set based on my individual personality traits?” this handy guide filled with beautiful color illustrations will help you recenter and reconnect with yourself amid the stress of daily life and will leave you feeling happier and healthier in mind, body, and spirit.

In this week’s episode Christina and I chat about:

  • The origin of the Enneagram, how Christina first discovered it, how you can find your true type, and the Enneagram’s ability to unify us.

  • Showing up as your authentic self and the role of community in the Enneagram.

  • How Christina defines self-care, why it’s sometimes uncomfortable, and how understanding your Enneagram type can help you develop better self-care practices.

  • Christina shares her advice for how each type can take care of ourselves one year into the pandemic (it’s truly a masterclass in the Enneagram!), how the Enneagram has brought greater joy into her life, her biggest dream, and so much more!

I really enjoyed sitting down with Christina for today’s podcast! It was truly a masterclass in the Enneagram, and I know you’re going to enjoy our conversation. From learning how to bring greater self-care into your life based on your type, to continuing to navigate the pandemic and quarantine based on your type, there’s something in this week’s new episode for everyone.

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Christina, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

Showing up as your authentic self as you’re finding it, and allowing yourself to be in community as your authentic self has been the biggest thing for me and what actually helped me find my Enneagram type.

What I love about the Enneagram is though you can see how you’re different from others, I really love focusing on how we’re actually very similar. Everyone no matter their core desire or fear, we live very similar human experiences. I love how unifying it can be.

Christina’s journey to the Enneagram is powerful, and a beautiful reminder that often our greatest healing comes from creative expression. Taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to be as serious as it’s made out to be! You can find something that’s fun and enjoyable, and allows you to express yourself through your healing. That’s exactly what happened for Christina when she found the Enneagram.

I’m grateful for what Christina shared about it in this week’s new episode. Growing up in the church, Christina began to recognize that there was something missing surrounding the topic of mental health. From dated, stereotypical views of trauma, anxiety, and depression, to a general misunderstanding of why taking care of yourself is important, she has become determined to stand in the gap and provide education, depth, and honesty into a conversation that is longing to be had. Christina is still learning and growing, and she hopes you’ll stick around to learn and grow with her.

In February of 2019, Christina began posting enneagram related graphics to her personal Instagram account of 800 followers, completely and totally for fun. 8 weeks later, her account had grown to 30k followers, and in under a year, she surpassed 100k.

Her entire world was thrown upside down, and it’s been the most terrifying and exciting thing to ever happen to her.

Self-care is sometimes painful. It’s uncomfortable and it’s sometimes the last thing we want to do, but it’s the thing that we need to do to grow and to take care of ourselves.
— Christina Wilcox

Many of us have used the Enneagram of Personality to understand ourselves on a profoundly intimate level. But despite what our Enneagram type reveals, it’s not always easy to know the best ways to take care of ourselves according to our unique personalities.

In Take Care of Your Type, Enneagram expert and social media sensation Christina S. Wilcox uses her knowledge of the Enneagram to illuminate how each of the nine Enneagram types can practice better self-care.

What I have found that is bringing me joy and bringing joy back into the Enneagram is honestly taking care of myself. Creating the rhythms and space for me to exist and be, a part from work, a part from the pandemic, a part from everything, is bringing so much joy back into my life.
— Christina Wilcox
