Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is Brandon Posivak, author of “Step on the Cracks: Reinventing Happiness, Positivity, and Optimism.”

Brandon is a former Division 1 baseball player from Los Angeles, CA, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lafayette College with a degree in Government and Law. He’s a fan of fun facts and dad jokes, learning new magic tricks, and carpool karaoke with his friends.

Outside of writing, Brandon enjoys playing sports, hiking, skiing, fishing, scuba diving, and traveling. He lives an active lifestyle and is always looking for the next adventure!

Brandon wrote Step on the Cracks: Reinventing Happiness, Positivity, and Optimism during one of the most difficult times in his life. Struggling to find happiness, he turned to writing and research for catharsis, then wanted to use what he had learned in order to help others.

In this week’s episode Brandon and I talk about:

  • Brandon’s journey writing Step on the Cracks, his definition of happiness, and why happiness goes beyond checking all of the boxes.

  • The happiness fingerprint, synthetic happiness, and the difference between happiness and joy.

  • Brandon shares his perspective around Gen Z use of social media and technology, how we can avoid getting trapped in the productivity hamster wheel.

  • Plus Brandon shares the role of vulnerability in his happiness journey, why he’s reminding himself to step on the cracks, his biggest dream, and so much more!

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Brandon, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

My definition of happiness is being able to make someone else’s day better, and being able to make someone smile. Because no matter how bad of a day you’re having or how rough of a time it is, you always have the power to make somebody smile.

I used the book as a way to combine my personal experience and honest experience, interviews with Generation Z, and psychological and neurological research to present a new perspective for the reader. It’s not to tell them what to do, just let them know that this is my experience, this is the experience of some other people, and here’s some research. In each chapter I tackle a different concept that I’ve struggled with and I really try to be vulnerable with that, and also share concepts that by the numbers Gen-Z struggles with as well.
— Brandon Posivak

As a member of Generation Z, Brandon Posivak went on a search for answers and applicable advice for cultivating genuine happiness. In Step on the Cracks: Reinventing Happiness, Positivity, and Optimism, Posivak shares what he has learned, as well as his passion and excitement for helping others, self-reflection, and learning about happiness.

This book answers the questions:

  • What can I do in order to improve my own happiness, positivity, and optimism?

  • How can social media be used in a healthy way?

  • What does it really mean to be “happy” and how can I find it?

  • What will a positive and optimistic outlook do for my future?

Ultimately, this book is a tool to help Generation Z to build a foundation for their own happiness and future success and see how to apply what they learn in this book to not only improve their own life, but improve the lives of those around them too. The book uses a combination of personal experiences, interviews, and psychological data to cover a different concept that Gen Z struggles with in each chapter.

Brandon and Step on the Cracks offers a new perspective on Gen Z happiness, positivity, and optimism, showing the reader in a conversational style that they are not alone, and that despite temporary defeat and negativity in life, happiness and success is achievable.

Everyone is unique in the way that they think about happiness, and everyone has a different vision in their head.
— Brandon Posivak

Brandon’s hope is that, in reading this book, the reader will discover how their own unique happiness fingerprint plays a role in their life and that it is also achievable for the future of Gen Z as a whole.

It’s Brandon’s hope that he can show that a “positive and optimistic outlook” in life may be a little different than what we were told growing up, but that it’s possible for all of us.
