I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.

My name is Rachel Day and I am a bi-racial female physician entrepreneur! A dermatologist by training, my skin health and wellness practice, OneSkin Dermatology, and lifestyle brand, the good life by oneskin, support and educate my patients and community to love their oneskin. We are mission driven in providing transparent skin health and wellness services to promote personal and community health.

How did you get started?

One micro-baby step at a time :) Out of residency I took the traditional path and took a position in a health system as an out patient dermatologist. In a few short words- it just didn’t make my heart sing. I also had some personal challenges that contributed to me making a huge life changing shift in my energy and trajectory. I had premature twins at 28 weeks (one who was ventilator dependent at home for over a year) and my younger brother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. When I looked at what caused me the most sense of being out of control it was the only thing I could control...my work environment. So I quit and made a plan to create an environment for myself and others that would be as nourishing to work is as those that sought our services. And so OneSkin Dermatology was born out of my decision to reclaim my agency in life and pursuit to ‘love my oneskin’.

What inspired the work that you're doing?

My first job out of residency was traumatic. It was a cultural mismatch which required me to quiet my voices of concern when it came to patient care in order to remain a part of that system. I recognized the only thing within my control was to exercise my choice to remove myself from that environment that stifled my creativity and dimmed my light. OneSkin Dermatology is a space that radiates beauty from the inside out. I built a space and filled it with a team that inspires me to show up every day as my best self. That is an energy that I carry home with me to share with my family and the energy that we put out into the community.

Unless you are independently wealthy we all have to work in life! My goal is to never feel like I am working- OneSkin Dermatology exists for the service of others and the return on that investment is the greatest wealth.

What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?

To design, create, and hold healing space for others. Absolutely! I have experienced such personal growth and healing along this journey. I feel every day I get to walk in my purpose and share my gifts with my partner, my children, my patients and community. It is incredible.

What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?

My joy blueprint is to create a life where I can ‘love my oneskin’. One is such a beautiful number and concept. It is not only whole and complete on its own but can be one of many and that is powerful when whole complete ones come together for a unified purpose.

My individual ones are my relationship with myself, my husband, my children, my service for others, my community. Wholeness in each of these areas, brought together through a life I am creating for myself on my terms, thats what makes me feel most alive. Owning my agency, taking my place in this world, calling my shot, letting it be known that I am here to LOVEMYONESKIN and help others do the same. It is a gift only I can share with the world (both big and small). It is a gift only I can share my children, to lead by the action of doing and making it happen because joy is the perception of your reality.

How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?

It will sound counterintuitive, but I work very hard to not overthink it. I have learned to listen to my body, it knows when I am walking in my purpose and living intentionally. How does my gut feel in a moment? what is my breathing like? Where Am i holding tension? How am I sleeping?Do I feel energized or drained after a particular interaction? The more I become an expert on myself and my body the easier it is. I rely on flooding my environment with positivity (podcasts, books, people, places) to consistently fill up my personal reserves to that I know I can trust my gut and easily make decisions that help me stay in alignment with my goals.

What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?

Validated. As a child/young adult I (subconsciously) changed who I was to feel accepted. Today I comfortable with who I am and am accepted for my willingness to be authentically myself. What a gift of grit.

Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?

Just Breathe.

Breathing is the first thing we do coming into the world and the last as we exit. That attention to focus on the present, my breath, is so grounding and affirming. I got Breathe tattooed on my left forearm in fall 2020. It has been a powerful reminder when I look down that I can keep going no matter the challenges if I can just breathe.

What is your biggest dream?

To open a direct care health-based eco-system! Cost transparency and true equality does not exist in our illness based medical system. I want to teach individuals how to live sustainably in their bodies and environment. Illness is something (in most cases) that we invite into our lives because of toxicity that we consume through food, our environment and what we consume emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I want to empower other healers to take their power back from the wasteful system that is healthcare and redirect their energy back to caring for people. I dream of coaching others to live life on the growth edge to share the gifts that are only theirs to share with the world.
