Marilyn Kapp is a renowned spiritual medium and Author of LOVE IS GREATER THAN PAIN: Secrets From the Universe For Healing After Loss.

She had her first experience communicating with those who passed when she was just two years old. She recalls watching her grandfather leave his body at the time of his physical death, hearing his promise that he would come back. True to his word, he appeared and communicated often throughout Marilyn’s childhood.

Marilyn assumed that all people shared this ability. It was a shock to learn that not everyone had this perception. With her mother’s support, she continued to receive out-of-body communication, but learned to keep it to herself.

While pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at Boston University, Marilyn was fortunate to study with Nobel Peace Prize laureate and acclaimed author Elie Wiesel. He became a friend and mentor. Marilyn went on to receive a Master of Arts from Emerson College in Boston while continuing her studies with Professor Wiesel. His encouragement helped her realize that pursuing and developing her ability as a medium would facilitate healing between those in physical body and those in spirit. His gentle counsel led Marilyn to a new comfort level with her gift.

Marilyn’s apprenticeship with Chi-gung master and healer Dr. Cho Wong fine-tuned and expanded her capabilities. Harvard University had already proven and substantiated his ability to cure many cases of cancer using only his hands. Marilyn’s perception was relied upon and studied by Harvard researchers, while Dr. Wong worked, to report visual changes in patients’ auras and provide technically immeasurable information. Out-of-body relatives of the subjects would come through, supplying both personal and medical support.

More than twenty years ago, Marilyn’s dear friend, Hollywood casting director Robin Lippin, convinced her to extend her channeling beyond family and friends. Robin told two of her friends about Marilyn’s abilities. After their sessions, they told their friends, and the rest is “herstory.”

Marilyn has performed thousands of personal readings for individuals and families, conducting sessions in Hollywood, Newport Beach, and Carlsbad, California, as well as all over the United States and internationally by telephone.

In LOVE IS GREATER THAN PAIN, Marilyn shares her profound understanding of the afterlife. Today a distinguished medium, Marilyn reveals the beauty in the transition from the physical to the spiritual plane, helping those who are dying, as well as those left behind. With personal stories and transcripts from channeling sessions, Marilyn teaches us how to interact with the afterlife and to joyfully embrace the reality that love truly is greater than pain.

I’m so excited for you to connect with Marilyn, check out work and her new book, and follow along as she continues to share universal messages of comfort, forgiveness, and understanding, including specific guidance for bereaved parents, for those dealing with dementia, and even for people who are grieving for their animal friends.

I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.

Hi! I'm Marilyn Kapp, and I appreciate this opportunity to share. I've always been able to see and hear people who have passed. I work as a spiritual medium. My book, Love Is Greater Than Pain, was released on June 2 through Penguin Random House.

How did you get started?

When I was two and a half years old, I watched my grandfather pass. I could see him clearly as he left his physical body behind. As he ascended upward, he waved and assured me that he would be back. He was true to his word. I continued to see and hear him. As a small child, this felt completely normal to me. I assumed that others shared my perception.

What inspired the work that you're doing?

As a teenager, I realized that my reality was unusual. I tried to be "normal," but I was constantly receiving information that didn't compute using the standard senses. I began to try to push it away. That changed when I met writer, Holocaust survivor, and future Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel and studied with him at Boston University. He was supportive and encouraged me to accept and expand my perception. He assured me that I could use it to help people.

I grew comfortable channeling loved ones who have passed for family and friends. Meanwhile, my dear friend from Boston University, Robin Lippin, moved to Los Angeles and became a casting director. She convinced me to channel for others and told a couple of her friends. They told their friends and on it went. Robin basically "cast" me in the role of spiritual medium, in real life.

What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?

I feel so blessed to witness people come to the realization that their loved ones are still with them. Old issues and misunderstandings are often resolved. Though we need to honor and process grief, there is joy in knowing that love and relationships continue. I love being a catalyst for this communication.

What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?

I love being with family and friends, animals and nature. I have always been a tree person. My husband Harry and I have become involved with Archangel Ancient Tree Archive, an organization that is cloning the DNA from champion trees in an effort to reforest and save the plant. We were gifted with the opportunity to go to the tops of two of the tallest known trees in the world, a sequoia and a redwood. The beautiful rush of energy, and the inclusive feeling of being part of the glorious wonder of nature is similar to the feeling of channeling. When we tune in, we become aware of the beautiful communication and healing taking place all around us.

How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?

I'm not all that disciplined when it comes to scheduling meditation and writing; though I feel I have been having an ongoing conversation with G'd, or Divine Consciousness, my whole life. Every day I ask for protection, focus my intention, and ask to be of service for the highest good. Whatever I have planned, I never really know what the day has in store. I love observing and being part of spontaneous synchronicities.

What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?

There is a part of me that feels timeless and is not surprised at how my life has taken shape. At the same time, there is the little kid part of me that is so delighted and amazed. I don't have to hide who I am. I realize that when we're young, we discover parts of ourselves that we're shy or insecure about, only to realize later that these things are assets.

Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?

Every day and before a channeling session, I focus on a mantra that has evolved and changed as the years go by. Basically, it is a prayer for protection and setting my intention.

"I clothe myself in a robe of light composed of the love, power, and wisdom of G'd.

I wear it not only for my own protection, but also so that those who see it or come in contact with it will be drawn to G'd and healed."

I recommend using a protection/intention sequence using whatever terminology best suits you on a personal level.

What is your biggest dream?

I am living my dream—observing spiritual communication becoming accepted in a mainstream way. I believe that everyone has the ability to align their perception and receive communication from loved ones who have passed. Consciousness is always expanding, and it's such an inclusive feeling to realize that we are all a part of the whole. And I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share through my book because love really is the greatest force.
