I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
Hi, I’m Eda Schottenstein, mom to four amazing kids, wife to a serial entrepreneur (and the busiest man I know), songwriter, mental health awareness advocate, and founder/CEO of the Multi-role woman platform, which is dedicated to helping women fill their toolboxes with the unique tools and resources they need to navigate their world. I give workshops, lectures and one on one coaching with one goal in mind- to empower women to live better and own their life’s story.
How did you get started?
It all started with a notebook and pen, and eventually became hundreds of pages of insights from books I read, lectures I attended and anything that inspired me. I always felt a deep desire to share my content because I knew it was life changing, I just didn’t know how to go about getting it out there, until I met Joscelyn Duffy, a masterful communicator, who helped me organize my content, clarify my direction and make my dream a reality.
What inspired the work that you're doing?
I was inspired by the major shift that occurred in my life when I implemented tools and tips that I had acquired through my studies in mental health counseling, my ADHD coaching certificate, and the hundreds of self-help books I had read, into my daily practice. It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you only believe it is possible. If you had told me a few years ago that I would be doing what I am doing today, I would likely have laughed and told you it was impossible. I was terrified of speaking publicly and did not like being in the spotlight. I was (and am) a quintessential introvert.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
I’m passionate about being authentic and connecting through our stories. Most people think they’re alone in their struggles, but they aren’t. I am passionate about teaching women the things that work and helping them live into their greatest potential.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
I feel the most joy when I am with my children, watching them blossom into amazing human beings. My joy blueprint involves being a present mother and wife, and living into my own potential by doing the things that align with who I am. In other words, measuring my success on my own barometer and not someone else’s, and teaching my kids (by example) to do the same.
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
I live intentionally by recognizing the power of the present moment. Time is one of our most valuable resources. Each moment is sacred, and you can’t get it back. If we truly internalize this, we will live more purposefully and become more active members in our own life. I also find the time to engage in self-care. When you take care of yourself, you are better suited to take care of others. I love to wake up an hour before my kids do and create content. That hour has become sacred for me. With four kids, I need time to unwind before the morning rush. Another tip that has changed my life is knowing when to say no. For the longest time, I was a certified people pleaser, always agreeing to do the things people asked of me. When I got real about what my boundaries were and what I really needed, it was liberating. Even if it means you have to say no to something, remember that saying no to someone or something can also mean saying yes to yourself and a rising tide will raise all ships in the harbor. Then there’s Gratitude!!! This one is huge for me. When you start your day with gratitude you will naturally begin to see more of the abundance that already exists in your life. Research shows that if you write down three things you’re grateful for every day for 21 days, you can actually change your brain wiring. I tried it and it worked.
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
My younger self would probably be surprised at the trajectory I have taken, but would likely be proud because she would understand how far I’ve come and what it took to become the person I am today.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
My favorite mantra is the famous quote from Hillel the elder “If not now, when?”. There is no better time than right now to improve your life. It’s so practical and true.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to live in a world where we live purposefully and recognize that we are all more alike than we are different. I dream of a world where we talk about mental health and de-stigmatize mental illness to the point where we can talk about depression or OCD the way we would about a headache or stomachache.
