Happy #SeekTheJoy Tuesday!

On the podcast today is Lauren Martin, the founder and head writer of Words of Women and author of the new book, The Book of Moods.

Lauren started Words of Women when she was searching for something to help herself, and other women, who were feeling lost. Now she’s sharing how to navigate our emotional triggers and turn our worst emotions into our best lives with her new book, The Book of Moods.

In today’s episode Lauren and I chat about the inspiration behind The Book of Moods, why the book is a love letter to herself and other women, and the impact of infusing her own personal journey into her book. Lauren shares why our emotions are such a powerful force, tools to navigate emotional triggers and how to harness our negative emotions and transform them into something positive, and the wisdom that’s found in our emotions. Plus, Lauren shares her mantras for self-love, why we need to let ourselves experience and celebrate the in-between moments, her biggest dream, and so much more.

I’m so excited to share this week’s new episode with Lauren, and I can’t wait to hear what you think! Make sure to join the conversation on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter!

It’s really powerful the way that we talk to ourselves and the way that we think about the thoughts that we have, and how we approach the feelings that we have. A lot of times what we’re feeling doesn’t have to be what we’re actually feeling. A lot of times nervousness, anxiety and excitement feel like the same thing, and we just need to make the active decision to say we’re not nervous, we’re excited about this, and it will completely change the whole experience.

I shouldn’t just be sitting here waiting for it to happen, it’s happening right now! I need to live in these spaces and enjoy these spaces, these in-between moments, and realize that most of my life is actually these in-between moments.

Lauren Martin is the sole operator and founder of Words of Women – an online and physical community dedicated to the growth and development of women. By providing entertaining, enlightening and supportive content related to the female condition, it has transformed the feeds and lives of its 300,000 women followers across Instagram, Facebook and Newsletter subscribers.

In an era where social media has replaced our interest in learning, reading and exploring, Words Of Women seeks to fill that void. Just because you’re on social media doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be growing. Why can’t your lessons come through your feed?

From historical lessons, anecdotes, advice and spiritual teachings, the content is not just images and quotes, but a school of thought.

Because of this unique content, Words Of Women is able to engage with its users on a unique level. Unlike normal inspirational or influencer accounts, the posts are not simply liked and forgotten. They are shared, talked about and engaged with. They are reposted and repurposed. The posts are not just images and quotes, but thought starters, spiritual guidance and tailored lessons.

By engaging with Words of Women you are entering into a niche school with students who are ready and willing to hear what you have to say.

My biggest dream is to see more compassion in people, and more compassion in myself which I’m constantly striving for – more compassion and tenderness. That’s why I think this book is a love letter to myself but also a love letter to women and the world. I just want to see more kindness.
— Lauren Martin

Five years ago, Lauren was sure something was wrong with her. She had a good job in New York, an apartment in Brooklyn, a boyfriend, yet every day she wrestled with feelings of inferiority, anxiety and irritability. It wasn't until a chance encounter with a stranger who revealed that she also felt these things, that Lauren set out to better understand the hold that these moods had on her, how she could change them, and began to blog about the wisdom she uncovered. It quickly exploded into an international online community of women who felt like she did: lost, depressed, moody, and desirous of change.

Inspired by her audience to press even deeper, The Book of Moods shares Lauren's journey to infuse her life with a sense of peace and stability. After five years studying the most fascinating, enigmatic and brilliant women of history, women who were known for their moods as much as their success – Frida Kahlo, Zelda Fitzgerald, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana – Words of Women founder, Lauren Martin combines lessons from these women, their failures, their strengths, their stories, with psychology and philosophy, to crack the code on what it means to turn our worst moods into our best lives. How to be not good, but GREAT, even when we don’t feel like it.
