Stephen Sokoler is the Founder and CEO of Journey Meditation. They’re on a journey to help all people live happier, healthier, less stressed lives.

Stephen spent years in the business sector, founding and running companies, including Altrum Honors, which helped organizations celebrate and inspire their employees. After years of personal practice, Stephen recognized that meditation needed to be shared with the world in a more approachable, accessible way. In 2015, he founded Journey Meditation with a simple but powerful goal: help people live happier lives with greater clarity and peace of mind.

Today, Journey Meditation teaches group meditation classes in a simple, approachable way, in local communities, at organizations around the world, and anywhere through the Journey LIVE app.

Meditation is a powerful tool, and one that is absolutely meant to be shared and practiced together. At Journey Meditation, they believe that meditation is more impactful when done with others, and I couldn’t agree more. They’re in the process of building the world’s largest, most supportive, inclusive meditation community, both online and off, and I’m so excited for you guys to connect with Stephen, check out what he’s creating and sharing with Journey Meditation, and follow along as they continue to grow and inspire!

I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.

I’m Stephen Sokoler, and I’m the founder and CEO of Journey Meditation.  We’re on a mission to help people live happier, healthier, less stressed lives by building the world’s most supportive, inclusive meditation community both online and in person. We recently launched Journey LIVE, the first live group meditation app – think Peloton for meditation.

Prior to starting Journey, I founded and ran a company dedicated to helping organizations celebrate and inspire their employees.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading, exercising, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.

How did you get started?

In 2011, while living in Sydney, I found meditation through Buddhism and it changed my life.  I thought that if we could bring meditation to people in a simple, approachable, secular way, it would really resonate. I put together a team of experts in science and meditation and created an accessible and powerful program and then took it out into the world.

What inspired the work that you're doing?

After personally experiencing the benefits of meditation, I thought there was a real opportunity to help people live better lives. I believed that if we could meet people where they are – physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially – it could really help individuals and communities.

What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?

I’m currently obsessed with the work we’re doing at Journey LIVE. It feels like we’re really helping people to connect with themselves and each other and bring more joy into their life. The feedback our students share really inspires me.

I don’t think I could have ever imagined a life that was this aligned with my passion and purpose.

What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?

About 12 years ago, I wrote down the things that make me happy and read it almost every day.  It’s called My Recipe for an Amazing Life and has “Things to Do” and “Things to Remember”. This includes things like “Exercise, sleep, eat healthy, and meditate every day” and “Recognize and appreciate that you have everything you could ever need and way more.”

How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?

See above.

What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?

He would be very surprised! :)

Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?

“Know thyself”

What is your biggest dream?

To live in a world that is healthy, happy, and peaceful.
