I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
Hello, I'm S.G. Blaise and I’m a Sci-Fi/Fantasy author. I was born in a faraway land of castles, monarchies, and fallen dictatorships, aka Hungary. Hollywood movies were largely forbidden under Soviet oppression during my childhood, but my dad smuggled them in any way, risking his life so that his children could experience the magic and hope inherent in those stories. I watched rebellions unfold in real-time. I journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for love. I ended up in sunny California, where I'm living my dream — writing stories and annoying family members. Currently I am working on the third installment in my award winning series, The Last Lumenian.
How did you get started?
My writing journey began when I was a young girl. I always enjoyed creating short stories in my head, especially at night before going to bed. But it wasn't until 2012 when I decided to delve into the writing world. From that moment, I fully immersed myself in the craft and learned more about structure, techniques, and different writing styles.
What Inspired the work you’re doing?
My main inspiration came from a dream. I was on a cross-country road trip across Europe with my family in 2012. I woke up in the middle of the night, jetlagged, with an idea and wrote it down with the only illumination coming from my phone. This was the first draft of my story. Although a lot changed from this version to the one I published, the world, characters, and storyline all started there.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
My biggest passion is storytelling. Stories introduce us to a vast cast of characters and transport us to new worlds where anything is possible. Stories have always had a special place in my heart, from watching them on television or as films to reading them through my favorite books.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
One of my greatest joys would have to be coffee! Just kidding, but it does come in handy to brighten every day. Joke aside, my family and friends are the ones who bring abundant joy into my life. They have been my biggest supporters throughout my writing journey over the years. Another source of joy comes from seeing the readers’ responses after reading my books. It is heartwarming when I learn how invested they’ve become in my characters.
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
I have found that surrounding myself with family, friends, and love is one of the best ways to stay grounded. Another way to live intentionally is to take up new hobbies or workshops that you may not have considered before. Exposing myself to something new and pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone are good ways to enrich my life.
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
I believe my younger self would be proud of how far I have come. I would never have thought I could become an award-winning author of a Sci-fi/Fantasy book series, not to mention write my books in another language. I have learned so much about myself and accomplished something that took more years than I thought it would. I didn’t give up and persevered. I learned to enjoy the journey and not just the destination.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
A go-to mantra for me is to keep the magic alive; it's only the beginning. I love this mantra because it reminds me to always find magical aspects of life and know that there is more to come. I sign my books with this mantra because I hope my readers will also feel the same.
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to see the book series become loved by millions because they find inspiration from the characters to follow their own passion dreams. I would love to hear how my readers have overcome their own personal struggles and obstacles to reach their dreams. In fact, the publishing company I started believes the importance of making the world a better place, one fantasy at a time.
