Raquel Genae
Raquel Genae is a writer, performer and creative director, and her love for fashion, self-love, connection, and creativity fuels everything that she does. Her passion for expression and healing is the foundation of her art. She’s a writer, poet, and spoken word performer, and she draws on the power of words and imagery to create bodies of work that inspire, motivate, and empower.
Our self-love, compassion, and kindness journeys are all different, but there’s one thing we all have in common. Our willingness to break old patterns, and see, love, appreciate, and honor our unique gifts, talents, and abilities, is what Raquel hopes to share moving forward. I am truly inspired by Raquel’s journey and I learn something new from her and what she shares every single day. She’s chosen to draw on her own experiences with self-care, self-love, and fashion to create a life and career that inspires others to live fully in their truth too. Raquel is truly part of a larger movement of greater self-worth and inclusivity, and I can’t wait for you guys to learn more and follow along!
I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
My name is Raquel Genae! I am a writer, performer, and creative director. I am fascinated by media, fashion activism and self-love. Right now, I am working on a website that talks about my personal journey, self-care, and fashion.
How did you get started?
Lots of trial and error and plenty of growth. But ultimately, I made a choice. I didn't love the life I was living so I started to design the life of my dreams.
What inspired the work that you're doing?
It was a combination of personal experiences and watching those I love struggle internally. I had a deep desire to express myself and help others.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
My biggest passion is to help the world heal through art, film, fashion and music. I want to challenge the status quo that convinces us that we have to look or be a certain way to be accepted by society. I believe in creating our own trends and letting everyone have space to be themselves. I believe images should empower us, not oppress us. I want people to see themselves in the media we consume. I aspire to combine pop culture and consciousness. We often separate the idea of fashion and consciousness. We often overlook the actions of fashion empires for the products they sell us but that is coming to an end. We are no longer entertaining mindless action because we are becoming aware of our power, individuality and beauty. I want to create a glamour world that we can all be a part of. There is no hierarchy, only reliability. A movement of self-worth and inclusivity. Having a lot of big dreams and goals can be incredibly overwhelming and scary but that's how I know I am living my purpose.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
Change. Learning something new. Seeing someone win against all odds. Simply practicing the happiness of my existence.
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
I have a morning routine that keeps me motivated, grounded, and mindful. I do yoga for 15 minutes, self-affirmations, meditation for 30 minutes, then posing for 15 minutes, dancing for 15 minutes, and I will finish it off with some journal time and self talk. Self-awareness is very important to me.
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
My younger self would smile. I took every rock thrown at me and I created something out of it. I trust my direction and I feel more myself than I've ever been.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
I say 12 different affirmations every morning. One of them is "I only seek validation and acceptance from myself. I am perfect exactly the way I am. This moment is perfect. The time is now."
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to inspire the world to believe in their power. When enough of the world operates at the frequency of love, we will know change. I aspire to be a new generation leader and a voice for change.
