Michelle Moore - Sr. VP of LabCorp, Founder of Mother’s Grace nonprofit, and Author of A Mother’s Grace: Healing the World One Woman at a Time
Michelle Moore
By day, author Michelle Moore oversees the COVID-19 testing response as a senior vice president for Laboratory Corporation of America; by night, she is the founder of Mother’s Grace, a nonprofit organization that has raised more than $5 million for families in acute crisis, assisting more than 6,000 mothers in the state of Arizona and throughout the world. Mother’s Grace addresses the critical needs of mothers and their children in the midst of tragic life events by helping them with housing costs, medication, meals, housekeeping, childcare, transportation, and a host of other immediate needs. Through mentorship and seed grants, Mother’s Grace also assists women in starting their own nonprofits, with the goal of producing a new generation of women leaders.
Michelle is the recipient of MASK Unity’s Moms Making a Difference Award, the highly coveted Hon-Kachina Award and the AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s Philanthropy in Action Award. In 2019, Moore was awarded the Phoenix Business Journal’s Outstanding Women in Business award and was granted a State of Arizona Commendation by First Lady Angela Ducey for her extraordinary service to the people of Arizona.
As women everywhere are dealing with unprecedented trials and stress in their lives, A Mother’s Grace: Healing the World One Woman at a Time shares remarkable true (and inspiring) stories from female change-makers with advice about turning adversity into action. Moore shares how her adversity became a global movement when she survived an aggressive form of breast cancer at the same time her son faced near fatal complications from juvenile diabetes. Grateful to be alive, she was compelled to make changes in her life and in the lives of others. Along with her own personal story, Moore shares the stories of 11 women and how their lives serendipitously came together in the most unique ways so she could continue to grow this movement and partner with these women in quite miraculous ways.
I’m so excited for you to connect with Michelle, check out her work and new book, and follow along as she continues to share remarkable true (and inspiring) stories from female change-makers with advice about turning adversity into action.
I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
My Name is Michelle Moore, I am a senior vice president at LabCorp, president and founder of Mother's Grace, a nonprofit organization that addresses the critical needs of mothers and their children in the midst of tragic life events by helping them with housing costs, medication, meals, housekeeping, childcare, transportation, and a host of other immediate needs. And I just released my first book, A Mother’s Grace: Healing the World One Woman at a Time was just released!
How did you get started?
This is a passion project that began 20 years ago and has been a divine journey after losing my own mom at 5 years old, becoming a mom and then going through tragic life circumstances that led me to 12 other moms that also experienced life events. It is the story of how lives are and can become intertwined, and what these moms did to get through adversity and heart-wrenching experiences and do something good for the world as a result.
What inspired the work that you're doing?
See above..but for me it was the loss of my mom, then being diagnosed with cancer at the same time my young son was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Coming to understand that all of us need to be answers to prayer in our communities. Everyone suffers and just needs a little leg up.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
Mother’s Grace is definitely my passion. the charity, the collaboration with other moms, and now the book…it is a divine passion that has been a journey of growth, faith and love. I am so very lucky to be able to do it and hope to inspire others.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
Wow, what a great question! Being present in any moment is my joy...whether hanging out with my boys and talking, watching a hummingbird hover over a feeder, or having a drink with a friend. You never know how many moments you"ll have and that you'll get to take with you, so let go, let go, let go of all of the noise and nonsense. Nature and being outside makes me feel the most alive. Having breakfast outside with my favorite dogs and watching a beautiful scene with my favorite background music brings me back to life.
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
I mediate and pray every single day…I take time to tell people how I feel in the moment…I am old school. I say the rosary daily and it is meditative, full of gratitude, and reminds me to be an amazing mother.
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
My younger self would be super proud of the life I have worked very hard to achieve, but mostly through the supreme practice of letting go, which is really an oxymoron of “working hard”.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
Let go and let God…literally completely let go of control, anxiety, worry and let it be. There's another one from Paul McCartney, “Let it be.” :)
What is your biggest dream?
Speaking to women and moms all over the world and giving love and inspiration. Being able to support more and more moms as the need arises.
