Judy Gaman
Judy Gaman is an award-winning author, speaker, and radio show host. She's helped everyone from teens to CEOs. Whether it's finding and developing their passion, or taking steps to live a longer, healthier life, Judy Gaman delivers.
A graduate of the prestigious George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the School of Professional Studies, Judy learned how to tie together her knowledge of health and wellness and her desire to educate and inspire others. She is an award-winning author of four books and is currently working on books five and six simultaneously.
When she is not writing, you can hear her coast-to-coast on the airwaves as she co-hosts the nationally syndicated Staying Young Show with Drs. Mark Anderson and Walter Gaman of Executive Medicine of Texas. Her infectious personality and love of research keep audiences of all ages and backgrounds entertained and educated.
Judy is also an award-winning speaker who is just as comfortable on a stage as she is in a boardroom. Whatever the topic, she takes her audiences on a journey and always leaves them wanting more. Some people have referred to her as a master storyteller, but it's those stories that make people think and motivate real change.
I’m so excited for you to connect with Judy, check out her work, and follow along as she continues to lead by emitting a beacon of light that shines so bright that others are drawn to it.
I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
I'm the CEO of Executive Medicine of Texas (link to www.emtexas.com) where we see patients from around the world who want to improve their health. My work ultimately led me to write a book about how a centenarian (someone over 100 years old) changed my life forever. My memoir, Love, Life and Lucille: Lessons Learned from a Centenarian, is officially released on April 14, 2020. When not writing or in the office, I can be heard on the Stay Young America! podcast.
How did you get started?
I've always been in the medical field, working all aspects of primary care allowed me the chance to ultimately become the CEO, my dream job. As far as writing, that was a bit more of a challenge. As a child I was an undiagnosed dyslexic. It wasn't until I was an adult with a dyslexic child that I received my own set of tools to help me read better and faster. Once that happened, I couldn't get enough. I finished my undergrad and graduate degrees, and found that I loved reading! What went from a new found love of books, ultimately led to a love of writing.
What inspired the work that you're doing?
I would say my mother. Every aspect of my life has a stamp of my mother on it. She was a nurse, so I learned the importance of taking care of others. I was also exposed to hospitals, nursing homes, and all things medical from an early age. Even my passion for books is a reflection of my mother. At age 80, she still has a library in her home, filled with all kinds of books imaginable.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
I often say that I'm the luckiest girl I know. I'm passionate about connecting with others and through my position as a leader, opportunities as a speaker, and the books I write, I'm able to live out that passion on a daily basis.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
I find joy in variety. I don't think I'd be happy doing just one thing. Going from speaking on a stage, to running a business meeting, and then spending quiet time playing cards by the fire with my hubby just brings everything full circle. Oh, but I can't forget those beautiful grandchildren. They make my heart boil over every time!
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
When I interviewed several people over 100, there was one thing they all had in common, it was prayer and faith. Their reflective testimonies had a great impact on my heart, helping me realize I needed to put my own faith front and center. For years now I have ended my day with scripture reading and a prayer journal entry.
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
My younger self, especially that girl on the front row who was terrified to read outloud, would be shocked! Me, an author? What? Once I heard a speaker explain that we need to always make our younger selves proud of us. I think that little Judy would be proud to see how far she's come.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
What is your biggest dream?
My biggest, baddest, craziest dream is to have Love, Life, and Lucille be a screenplay. I even have my dream cast: Holland Taylor (as Lucille), Reese Witherspoon (as me), and a supporting cast of Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton, with Dolly doing all the music, of course. I even sent them all copies and wrote letters. My mother always said, "You can't get what you never ask for."
