David Essel - Best Selling Author, Life Coach & Counselor
David Essel
David Essel, M. S. O.M., is a number one best-selling author (10), counselor, master life coach, international speaker and minister whose mission is to positively affect 2 million people or more every day, in every area of life, regardless of their current circumstances.
David began his career in the health and fitness industry and quickly was named “Mr. Motivation” and “The #1 Life Coach in the USA” by Lifetime Television and “The Master of Motivation” by American Fitness magazine. He parlayed this worldwide reputation into the world of athletes and athletics after getting his Master’s Degree in Fitness Management, where his emphasis on sport psychology led him to work as the “Mental Success Counselor” for basketball, baseball, tennis players and more from around the USA.
In 1990, a chance encounter with an athletic client who desired a life free of resentments against her former husband, led him deeply into the world of relationship work, with both singles and couples. That same year he became one of the first nationally recognized Master Life Coaches in the USA, as his work was featured weekly on national radio and television shows. In 1996 David created Life Coach Universe, a Life Coach Certification organization that has certified individuals wanting to make a difference in this world from across the USA, Spain, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands.
David has helped thousands of people from around the world achieve their greatest goals in every area of life. From doubling and even tripling their income, to freedom from addictions, preparation for deep love, getting the body they’ve always wanted, releasing long held negative attitudes, overcoming deep depression and anxiety, overcoming emotional and sexual abuse, changing careers or creating dramatic success as business owners, public speaking, as well as helping couples recover from affairs and creating a deep personal connection with God or one’s higher power - and more! I’m so excited for you guys to connect with David, check out his work and books, and follow along!
I'd love it if you'd introduce yourself, what you do, and what you're working on.
Hi there, I’m David Essel, a number one best-selling author, counselor, master Life Coach, speaker and minister.
For the past 40 years, I’ve devoted my entire existence to the world of personal growth, helping people to shatter such things as procrastination, low self-confidence low self-esteem and help lead them onto the path of creating a dynamic, abundant and exciting life. The topics we cover are never ending, from overcoming trauma and tragedy like rape, incest as well as helping companies to build million dollar enterprises, helping individuals to lose weight or shatter addictions, helping couples to reclaim love after an affair as well as helping single people to find the love of their lives.
It’s exciting, it’s ever challenging and I love it!
We have 1000 projects going right now, our children’s book on teaching others how to be more accepting and compassionate was just re-released, a brand new book on how to experience heaven on earth, and coming out in 2020 a new book on the deep secrets to real love.
How did you get started?
My career actually began in the world of health, fitness and sports psychology. From 1980 until 1990 I was immersed in the world of fitness and health, traveling 40 weeks a year as an international speaker.
In the world of sports psychology, I was working with tennis, basketball players and golfers, and helping them with the mental edge needed in sports.
Around 1990 I burned out in the world of health, fitness and sports psychology and transferred over to “general counseling“, which meant now the topics that I cover are never ending, as broad as the spectrum of light. Exciting. Passionate.
What inspired the work that you're doing?
I was born to be a leader, in elementary school, high school and college I was a starting point guard, and so it’s in my blood to lead people. And over the years I’ve seen how many people live in trauma, sadness, way below their potential… And it inspires me to lift others up, so that they can see their true self worth and value.
What is your biggest passion? Do you feel like you're living your passion and purpose?
I have been very fortunate, and I’ve been living my life passion and purpose for over 40 years as a professional. I do it because I love it, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. I’ve gone through many setbacks, overcoming multiple addictions, bankruptcy, divorce, just like a lot of other people in this world right? But my passion, to lead, my passion is in the work I do which is multifaceted: an author, writer, speaker, counselor, minister,… The list goes on anon.
What is your joy blueprint? What lights you up, brings you joy, and makes you feel the most alive?
Thank God doing the work I do brightens me every day! Whether it’s writing a new book, or counseling someone from London via Skype, speaking to large groups of individuals, or doing a sermon at one of the many churches around the country that I fill-in for other ministers… All of this brings me great joy
But also being at the beach! Playing tennis! Playing guitar… Working out… I try to surround my life with things that I fully love, and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
How do you live intentionally? Are there tools/resources/practices that you rely on to help you stay mindful and grounded?
This question is one of the most important questions anyone could ever ask. I believe everyone should follow the same program we created 40 years ago for myself, and is handed down to millions of people via our videos, books and sessions. First thing in the morning, the first hour is spent in prayer, meditation, gratitude journaling and so much more. This is the anchor of my day, and I believe if everyone started out with a strong morning ritual, consisting of the topics I talked about above, we would all be in such a better place.
I also make sure to read inspirational writings every morning as a way to get my day started in the most powerful way possible. And I believe exercise is 100% critical, for every human being, that wants to really live life to the fullest
What would your younger self think about what you're doing now?
My younger self would say “oh my God David! I had no idea that you would create this type of existence!“ And I’m very honest here. I never had an idea that I would write books and become a number one Bestselling Author , but here’s a really important part of my success. I wrote books for 20 years with very little recognition, but on the 21st year we released a really radical book “positive thinking will never change your life… But this book will!“, And it skyrocketed an already very successful career.
My younger self would be shocked, that I am one of those people that loves the world of positive thinking but also teaches the shortcomings of positive thinking, the nonsense created by programs like “the law of attraction“, which teach fantastical thinking, not reality. But my younger self would be very damn proud of the life I’ve created, the hardships I’ve gone through, the sobriety I’ve achieved, yes I think my younger self would be very very happy right now.
Do you have a go-to mantra or affirmation?
Yes, I have a two mantras that I go to on a daily basis. One is “Hamsa“, which means “I am that“, and then I have my silent meditation mantra given to me in my transcendental meditation training program in 1987 that I repeat every day as well.
I also wear prayer beads, a Buddhist mala, I wear three of them on my body, 24 hours a day, each of the prayer beads have 108 beads, for 108 different prayers that we can say on a daily basis. All of this keeps me as grounded as I can be in this crazy world.
What is your biggest dream?
My greatest dream is a very simple one, to move back to the beach, and to spend my days writing book after book after book after book. I now live just a short distance from the beach, looking forward to moving back, and then just immersing myself in the world of writing, which I love, because it brings me great joy in it also allows me to reach out to millions of people I would never be able to touch in any other way.
I have found something very true that my late friend Wayne Dyer told me a 1990: “David, you cannot give too much of yourself away. Continue to produce motivational content and give a large portion of it away.“ I had and still have so much respect for Wayne, and the advice he had given me over the years, that we even created a YouTube video with about 1500 free videos on personal growth.
