Sade Cutler
Sade Cutler has possessed a heart to empower people in many areas of life. After a long journey to find a career helping and empowering others she eventually stumbled upon Social Work “the helping profession for empowerment”. As a child, Sade attended Baltimore City Public Schools in Baltimore, Maryland -where she was born and raised. She later graduated from Coppin State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and an elective cluster in social and biological courses. Shortly after graduating from undergraduate school, Sade went on to receive her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Social Work advance standing program.
Sade joins us to share her story from struggling with infertility, to having her son, and the life threatening complications that almost took her life, and that of her child. Sade’s story is one of overcoming great obstacles and adversity, and a reminder of the power of the human spirit and hope.
After arriving at the emergency room, Sade was diagnosed with Premature rupture of membranes (PROM), a rupture of the membranes of the amniotic sac before labor begins. Sade was only 22 weeks pregnant, and she knew if she was to have her baby, doctors weren’t going to intervene to save his life.
Sade prayed that her son would survive. This was not just any pregnancy, it was the farthest along she had gotten in every pregnancy she had, after seven miscarriages. As Sade shares, you can only imagine the emotions she was feeling, but she still had some hope that her son would survive. She stayed in the hospital for almost three months, and those three months were full of anxiety, stress, and complications. But through it all, Sade had hope.
Once Sade hit 32 weeks, she went into early labor, and doctor’s performed an emergency C-section. They discovered that Sade had Placenta Previa, and she was hemorrhaging. She lost almost half her blood, she lost a portion of her uterus, and she underwent a 3-4 hour surgery to save her life. After surgery she had a pulmonary embolism, it was one life-threatening complication after another, and Sade didn’t know how she was going to move forward. In the midst of all of this, she lost her job, and she fell into a depression.
She wanted to give up but she knew she had to keep going for the sake of her son. It was over a year and a half before Sade started to feel well, but as she shares, through the grace of God she started to feel better. Going to therapy, redirecting her focus into things that she could control, spending more time with God, all were the keys to tap into her strength. Sade had hope, and that made all the difference.
