The Power of Storytelling - Episode 9

Welcome back to The Power of Storytelling!

Alexandra and Sue, thank you for sharing your stories, your words, and your journey with all of us.

This month's episode reminded me that often our paths appear undefined, but every step of the journey serves a purpose.

So, I want to share a little bit about the stories that are featured in this month's episode, and I encourage you to check out Alexandra and Sue after you listen to this week's episode.

Alexandra Spergel is the CEO and founder of The Nomad's Direction - a company that creates personalized, custom made travel itineraries to fit each type of traveler. Alexandra's story of pursuing her own philosophy of yes will inspire you to follow your passions and joy and choose you, all while updating your passport and booking your next trip ASAP.

Alexandra takes us through her journey of solo travel around the world, what she's learned along the way, the strength she discovered in herself, and she's been able to turn her love for travel into a successful business. She also shares with us the importance of surrounding yourself with other women who are growing, expanding, and stepping out on their own to create their dreams. She's created her own timeline, set her own path, and her story will leave you feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to hit the ground running.

Plans have a way of shifting and changing. Rather than be met with defeat, if we live our lives with the expectation that things will change, rather than naively convincing ourselves that everything we aim for will fall into place as a concrete puzzle, we probably would be a lot happier because we’d avoid the sting of disappointment, but we’d find ourselves a hell of a lot more excited for the future too.

Sue Hollis is a coach, adventurepreneur, motivator, guide, and author. Sue's story of having amazing "head" success - a big career, beautiful family, financial security, house, cars, and a life of adventure - yet still feeling empty, is inspiring and will challenge you to take a good look at your life. Where are you leading with your head and not your heart? What changes can you make? Who do you really want to be?

Sue was a driven, Type-A overachiever and mega-successful business leader compelled to control everything in her life — her business, her eating habits, and her time. Her identity was tied to her job, and her work was her entire purpose. But despite her external success, Sue felt a deep sense of unhappiness. She left it all behind and decided to set off on an 83-day solo journey across North America on her motorcycle, Voodoo. Along the way she discovered "heart" success. She got to know herself in a whole new way, tapped back into her self-love, passion, and joy. She reclaimed her life and she began to heal. She opened her heart and stepped into the fullness of who she was meant to be. Sue's story of finding her self-love, letting go of perfectionism, and honoring herself is relatable, full of so much courage, vulnerable, and inspiring.

It’s okay to chase head success so long as it doesn’t define us. True joy, complete joy, comes from celebrating and embracing heart success, and being brave enough to be who you’re truly meant to be in this world, in holding your values sacred, and in living a life of purpose and potential.
